Porsche 911 930 3.3 Turbo Meteor Grey

Porsche 911 930 3.3 Turbo Meteor Grey

There are fast cars, sports cars, dangerously fast cars and then there’s the Porsche 930 Turbo – nickname: widow-maker. In fact, this classic 911 is as desirable as it is notorious, because it’s exact this tension of balancing between grip and no grip that provides the addictive kind of adrenaline inside the Turbo. After a thrilling ride, every passenger will confess sweating in places they didn’t know the existence from. Our version of the 3.3 Turbo is as exciting as it could be: in excellent condition (a lot has been done technically recently), including matching numbers and full history. This Porsche 911 Turbo had to survive only 3 owners. Or is it the other way around…?

History

Before we could welcome the 930 Turbo in the Netherlands, it visited our southern neighbors: in 1996 the Porsche Classic came into the hands of a Belgian. He had bought the car from a Luxembourger to which the 911 was delivered new in 1985. If this upward geographic line continues, the next owner should be a German or Dane. At Prins we don’t exclude anything, but secretly we hope to see the 1st generation Porsche 911 Turbo regularly in the Dutch streets in the near future. Also because of the overall great shape. The matching numbers prove the originality, while the original documents show the solid service history. Recent maintenance invoices (April 2022) explain the gearbox overhaul + new rear brake discs. So the condition of the technique isn’t a reason to back off…

Exterior

The looks are stunning as well. The beautiful Meteor Gray Metallic bodywork is completely original in terms of color. The paint itself was completely redone in 2017. A few black accents make the Porsche 930 Turbo brutal and elegant at the same time. The raised "whale tail" at the back for example, is more than just a huge spoiler. It’s also called a "tea tray" and in terms of size it would indeed serve well as a side table. Fact is, however, that Porsche needed the space underneath for the installation of an intercooler. In short, form follows function. Other characteristics are the legendary (16 inch) Fuchs wheels. The headlight cleaners turn out to be a nice extra, but the fog lights in the front bumper are typical Turbo.

Interior

Another great option is the electric sunroof. You’ll benefit it at most inside the Porsche interior, so let’s focus on that for now: the brown Burgundy leather provides a surprisingly warm welcome for a car with such a cool nickname. The electric seat adjustment has nothing to do with its killer instinct too. Another option focused on comfort is the electric window control. The dashboard and steering wheel are finished in the same tasteful brown shade as the leather seats. The design is fairly minimalistic, as we know from earlier Porsche 911 icons. Finally, the 5 analog instruments in a row reveal something about the dangerously fast talents of this 911 Turbo. More people seem to be interested in our killer car. And that’s why it’s a good thing that Porsche installed an alarm system, just in case…

Technique & performance

Experienced drivers will be extra triggered when experiencing the 300 horsepower coming from the back. The 6-cylinder boxer engine has a capacity of 3.3 liters. Driver and passengers will be blown away of course, otherwise the Porsche 930 Turbo would not live up to its name. Operating the manual gearbox perfectly results in a 5.4 second sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. The classic 911 Turbo won’t stop until reaching a top speed of 260 km/h; these values would still fit a proper modern sports car. Don’t forget: this model was already launched in 1975! The driving experience however, is really something else. All power is sent to the back of the car, which automatically makes the Porsche waggly as soon as the limit is reached. Its unforgiving nature once the rear comes around the corner is the real reason of its “widow-maker” nickname. It takes more than commitment to keep the Turbo on track. Playing with the throttle is more like a must than pure entertainment to set this Porsche 911 as precise as possible in fast corners. Who dares?

Kind regards,
Prins Classics
