History has been made in the USA, but it’s already 13 years in Dutch hands. It got a nice make-over too: inside you’ll find leather, Alcantara and even diamond stitching. No, the ultimate transport of the armed forces is no longer only for military use. However, it makes the Hummer H1 anything but less impressive. This gigantic weapon on wheels is happy to challenge every kind of obstacle. In peace.

History
The Hummer H1 originates from 1992, when AM General decided to build a commercial version of the military truck, called the “Humvee”. Arnold Schwarzenegger had an important role in the brand awareness of the massive-looking off-roader. “Muscle meets power”. Over the years, the iconic all-terrain Hummer H1 appeared in various body styles andpowertrains. This 1997 4-door pick-up is the absolute original model with 6.2 liter V8 Diesel engine and 3 automatic gears. Did someone say civilized…?
It will be no surprise that our classic was delivered new in the US. In 2010, the H1 crossed the Atlantic Ocean to discover our tiny little country. The contrast couldn’t be bigger for the extraordinary machine. To make a statement, the Dutch owner gave the original Hummer a new exterior paint. Next, the mighty interior was ultra luxuriously decorated and finished with beautiful materials. After 10 years, the Hummer fan sold his H1 to a friend who also turns out to be a respected Prinscustomer. We all knew that this piece of American madness would be in good hands with the enthusiastic car collector. History shows that in Holland, the Hummer H1 has always been maintained by one and the same local car mechanic; a genuine specialist. Exactly how it should be when we talk about a proper collector’s item!

Exterior
Call it extravagant, exorbitant or extreme. One thing is for sure: the Hummer H1 is self-contained. The bodywork is so wide and the wheels are so huge, a trucker would be jealous. Also, this military vehicle for the streets has all kinds of features to serve the army. For instance, check out the tires you can fully deflate and then pump it up again while sitting in the “control center”. Furthermore, the repainted black giant has an immense ground clearance and practical pick-up configuration which is beautifully finished with wood. This allemphasizes the no-nonsense character of the American fighting machine. Another striking detail is the upright front plus rear window combined with a relatively low roofline, making the H1 even more exceptional. What a car. What a powerhouse!

Interior
On the inside, the Hummer continues to show its superpowers: the interior isn’t large. It’s not even an XXL-size. You’re looking at ballroom kind of space. And since there are only 4 seats, you get plenty of room to dance. You think. But then there’s the incredibly wide center/tunnel console. The 2+2 Hummer H1 setup has an interior finish matching an exclusive GT: the stylish brown leather upholstery has luxurious Diamond Stitching and is in great shape. A nice little detail is the brown stitching on the black roof handles. They are part of a black Alcantara (!) headliner. So are the Clarion audio speakers: they produce a sound (almost) as amazing and powerful as the size of the Hummer H1.

Technique & performance
The “king of the road” feeling is an understatement for those who have the honor to get behind the wheel. This is THE general among all-terrain vehicles! In front lies a powerful 6.2 liter 8 cylinder diesel engine. The so-called Detroit Diesel V8 produces a maximum of 199 hp and is linked to a Turbo-Hydramatic transmission including 3 automatic gears. In the field, the Hummer H1 certainly doesn’t deny its origins. You know what they say: never change a veteran…
