Fiat and Abarth: those 2 are inseparable. The fact that the cooperation between these brands is based on more than half a century of pure romance, is confirmed with this very unique Fiat 124 Spidereuropa Volumex 2000 by Abarth! Under the iconic Pininfarina design lies a significant upgrade including a so-called Roots compressor, produced in extremely limited numbers. This is nr. 369/500, worldwide! The Spider Europa 2.0 Volumex from Prins has a wonderful (super rare!) color combination and lost none of its authentic charms. To whom the honor to continue this spectacular piece of history in Fiat-Abarth style?

History
You need a bit of luck to track down an extreme rarity like this. We found the Fiat 124 Spider Europa Volumex by Abarth in the garage of a private car collector in Sweden. The man certainly knew how to appreciate the individually numbered roadster. Pininfarina introduced the special edition of the Fiat 124 in 1983 all by himself, after taking full production over and starting a collaboration with Abarth to give the technique an upgrade. The Italians installed a Roots compressor and managed to squeeze 135 hp out of the 2.0 liter engine. Impressive figures, but even more impressive was the fact that ‘eternal rival’ Alfa Romeo Spider was defeated on paper. In terms of power, and also in terms of top speed the Fiat improved considerably: the Volumex reached a top speed of 190 km/h: 15 km/h more compared to the standard 124 Sport Spiders…

Exterior
Pininfarina designed many masterpieces for road use. In case of this classic roadster, his involvement went even further: in 1982, the famous designer took over the entire production from Fiat! Various adjustments to the Fiat 124 Spider were made over the years; the European version of the Azzura, which was built for the USA. The highlight was this Spidereuropa Volumex: only 139 units of the limited edition were painted black. The other 361 Spiders got a red bodywork. Just to give you a clear idea how extremely rare our version is! On top of that, it has some original Abarth options too: for example, the rims were an extra at the time. And just like all other Fiat 124 Spiders, this one also excels in timeless elegance and eternal charisma. Especially in black.

Interior
The Spidereuropa Volumex is in a class of its own on several points of few, and not only tasteful on the technical side. Inside, the compact convertible is perhaps even more surprising than on the outside: the beige leather upholstery matches the soft-top in terms of color, and transforms the Fiat from a classic into a style icon. A combination of Abarth logos and Pininfarina badges ensure that it’s impossible to miss you have taken a seat in something really special. The black leather sports steering wheel has contrast stitches and a red heart with the famous scorpion in it. The dark brown dashboard has a wooden finish. Add to that the chrome finished window frames, door trims plus handbrake handle, and it’s like Pininfarina got the best stuff our of the warehouse and managed to bring it all beautifully together into one Spidereuropa cockpit. The Blaupunkt radio is from another era though. Well, we can’t keep those classic audio tapes forever, right?

Technique & performance
A solid 4-cylinder petrol engine with a capacity of 2.0 liters set the basis for Abarth tuning. The Spider Europa Volumex 2000 is exclusively equipped with a Roots compressor. An upgrade to 135 hp resulted in a climb in top speed from 175 to 190 km/h. That’s exactly why this Pininfarina product is the worst nightmare of Alfa Spider owners. Luckily for them, it would be the first and last time the Italian design house produced a complete car from start to finish. As if a black 124 Spidereuropa Volumex by Abarth wasn’t quite unique enough…
