The classic definition of tasteful: this fully restored Alfa Romeo Duetto 1600 is pure beauty on wheels. Literally. Our Rosso Alfa roadster has a crystal-clear history and a rock-solid body. In front lies an original 1750 engine from the 60s. The first series Spider is in splendid shape from the outside, inside and also technically. No wonder that this bella macchina was owned for the last 20 years by only one single person! He enjoyed every tiny bit of it, including the Blaupunkt radio, wooden steering wheel and lots of Italian flair. Now for sale at Prins.

History
When it comes to class and style, the Alfa Romeo Spider is in a league of its own. The original series (1966) was named Duetto and remained intact for the main part until the production of the Type 4 was ended in 1993. The 1st series Spiders were known for their “osso di sepia” design which is rounder than its kamm tail successors. About 19 years ago, the classic ended up in the hands of a diehard Dutch fan. At his request Alfa specialist Jan Steutel restored the Duetto from top to bottom. By putting a 1750 Veloce engine in it, he made the Duetto 1600 more desirable than ever. The result: the former owner couldn’t let go of the Spider for almost 2 decades… We can’t blame him for that.

Exterior
Italy stands for passion, emotion and beauty. No classic to represent this better than our extraordinary Alfa Romeo Duetto. The restoration has been thorough, because the condition is truly excellent. The body is extremely solid, the exterior very sleek and the lacquer bright red. As mentioned earlier, Series 1 of the Alfa Spider is known for its rounded rear. Does it limit the boot space? Yes. Do we mind? No, because these types of classic beauties are all about originality and distinction. And the Duetto is just that little bit better at this than the Spiders that followed… The slim bodywork, round headlights behind transparent covers and chrome-rimmed windscreen remained untouched for 27 years. What can we say? Some legends are forever. And why would Alfa Romeo change something that is already perfect?

Interior
Even more enjoyable than watching the Duetto is driving the Duetto. The smile on your face starts to grow as soon as youget behind the stunning wooden steering wheel with aluminum double spokes. Also pay attention to the the classic sliders of the ventilation system, the Jaeger instruments and Blaupunktradio. Every detail symbolizes the unprecedented (driving)qualities of this true sports car. The reupholstered Nero leather seats contrast fantastically with the Rosso floor plus dashboard finish, while the toggle switches emphasize the era from the original Alfa Romeo Spider wonderfully. Hello 60s. Still going strong @ 2023!

Technique
Compared to the 1300 Junior, the Duetto 1600 was already a powerful version. However, the former owner was happy to take the opportunity to exchange the existing drivetrain for the even nicer 1750 motorization during the restoration process. The engine came directly from a 60s Spider Veloce, so you could say the car was already made for the upgrade. The power increased from 109 to 118 hp and the torque from 142 to 186 Nm. Perhaps even more important is the current condition of the technique: it’s just as great as driving the Alfa classic. The Twin Cam characteristics of the 1779 cc 4-cylinder inline engine stayed identical. Because well, they don’t get much better.
