A 42 year old Alfa classic on its very first set of tyres… It could be your worst nightmare, but in this special case it’s more like the most beautiful Alfa dream: the first series Alfa Romeo GTV6 has had only 2 owners and drove 16,364 kilometers… In 42 years! So yes, dreams can come true when you pay Prins a visit. The visual part of the Rosso Alfa legend has always been perfect. And after many years of standstill, the technique is brought back to perfection again thanks to pure passion and petrol in our veins. Our professionals have put all the technical love and knowledge in it! The tank and timing belt are completely new. The Rosso Alfa paint is immaculate and on the underside the GTV6 shows no traces of use at all. Engine and transmission are incredibly smooth too, so don’t hesitate to give our Italian masterpiece a go!
History
Not so long ago, this Alfa GTV6 was a museum piece. Literally. And to be totally honest, it still is, given the excellent condition and fascinating background. Otherwise, how could we explain an average mileage of 390 kilometers per year? History tells us that the Alfa Romeo was newly delivered in Italy and has seen asphalt only during the first years of its existence. In possession of the 2nd and – so far – last (Italian) owner, the GTV6 disappeared behind glass. Which is exactly the location where we found the stunning Alfetta at the end of 2022. We have been very lucky that we were able to get the classic coupe back on track! With such a unique low mileage, there’s of course little to overhaul on the 2.5 liter 6-cylinder. However, technical preparation turned out to be necessary anyway, because the Alfa Romeo had not been driving for a while. Which can also be seen by the condition of the 1st set of Pirelli’s: after 42 years, the time has finally come to replace them.
Exterior
Alfisti can draw the characteristic contours of the Alfetta GTV6 blindfolded. The smooth coupé roofline ends in a straight back-end and is surrounded by lots of glass. Typical for this Alfa too are the double round headlight units and the so-called "powerdome" on the hood to make the 6-cylinder fit underneath. The earlier 4-cylinder versions were not designed for this kind of power! Rosso Alfa lovers are in the right place at Prins: in the first place because of the beautiful, pure bright red color. But also for the overall condition; this is what perfection looks like! The original lacquer, and still so immaculate… Unique is an understatement.
Interior
True connoisseurs know: an Alfa Romeo in Rosso is at its best in combination with a beige interior. The fabric upholstery of this GTV6 is 100% intact, flawless and… Beige! Grab the unscratched wooden steering wheel with both hands and imagine yourself being in a real time machine. Details such as the gear lever cover and radio/cassette player underline the mint condition of the 42-year-old classic. Bizarre isn’t the right word. We go for enchantingly! Don’t get us wrong: we like to keep the Alfa GTV6 as (good as) new, but at the same time we can’t wait for all the analogue instruments in the beautiful black dashboard to start moving. The brown carpet, beige headliner + door panels complete the surrealistic feeling of sitting in something really special.
Technique
Alfa Romeo must have been incredibly proud to integrate the V6, looking at the Alfetta’s type designation. Of course they were: the 2.5 liter V6 is a genuine gem. Not very surprising, referring to the ultra-low mileage. However, the old-school characteristics are the main reason why the coupé impresses: the 6-cylinder sounds pretty cool from the start, but shows even more coolness as soon as all 160 horses are shaken awake. After 42 years, this car still knows how to move us, literally, when it shows its sporty side. Steering is fun and the smooth running engine + gearbox actually makes us even happier. So no way you can hide that smile on your face when you treat yourself on this all-time Alfa Romeo GTV6 classic. We guess you’re smiling already…
Cordiali Saluti,
Prins Classics.
