History
The Alfa 75 dates from 1985, but for the absolute top version we had to be patient for another 5 years. The 3.0 V6 QV is more than worth the wait, we cannot be clear enough about that. Even with a catalytic converter this four-leaf clover surpassed the America version without the catalytic converter in terms of pure power. The total output: 192 hp. The top speed of 222 km/h was also higher than the 1.8 Turbo Evoluzione. Serious figures for a midsized family car! This specific one was put on the Dutch roads by Alfa Romeo dealer De Vries & Sipman back 1991, located in Wolvega. All documents are included so you can read the service history at your own pace. However… After 33 years of perfect maintenance, a real book has been created. So reading it page by page while having a voice in the back of your mind calling saying you want to get behind the wheel as quickly as possible, won’t feel that relaxing at all.
Exterior
As the successor to the Alfa Romeo Nuova Giulietta, the 75 was committed to becoming a serious alternative in the segment of the Mercedes 190 and BMW 3 Series. Unlike the these competitors, the Alfa 75 was and is much more a proper sports sedan. It has 4 doors, otherwise the sleek bodywork could easily be confused with a cool GT. The Rosso Alfa lacquer brings the sporty appearance of the Italian Berlina to a whole other level. But this doesn’t make the characteristic bodywork any less angular. In fact, the black side elements, ending in a beautifully integrated trunk lid spoiler, accentuate the straightforward lines of the iconic Alfa Classic. Painted in exterior color, the striking wheel arch edges + side skirts are unmistakable for the later series Alfa Romeo 75. So certainly also for this particular one.
Interior
Inside no Rosso but grey upholstery all over the place, including the seats and door covers. Dashboard and other parts share the same color. Exception is the wooden steering wheel having 3 black spokes with the legendary Alfa heart in the middle. The design of the 75 cockpit is just as sleek as the exterior. The JVC audio system is significantly younger, but there’s always an Alfa 75 badge right next to the instrument panel to remind you in what kind of time machine you’re sitting in. Furthermore, the interior is nicely intact and the overall condition is more than excellent. What a beauty!
Technique
The 3.0 liter power unit wakes up with a deep 6-cylinder Alfa Romeo roar. Traditionally all 192 horses disappear towards the rear axle when the V6 comes in action. It makes the 75 QV as playful as it’s sporty, since the sedan is easy to tame and at the same time rocksteady on the asphalt. In a straight line too: from 0 to 100 km/h within 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 222 km/h are numbers to be proud of. In short, you’re looking at a pure driver’s car. One that had no equal in its class. And because of its wonderfully original, analogue character, it will probably always remain that way… Come celebrate the beauty of the past. A past in which Alfa Romeo gave its own unique interpretation to the concept of ‘driving pleasure’. Now available at Prins.
