Pure Italian flair with a fine touch of German Gruendlichkeit: this iconic masterpiece designed by Bertone was delivered new in its country of birth in 1969 and was completely restored between 2007 and 2008 by the German specialist called Manfred Strecker. As a result, this stunning beautiful Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV is in absolute extraordinary condition! Luckily for you, the original configuration remained intact, because the combination silver lacquer / red leather is as timeless as it is stylish. After 15 years of driving fun, the former owner traded his classic Gran Turismo Veloce at Prins for another Italian legend: the Ferrari Dino. So yes, you could say your predecessor knows stuff about cars… As you do. Why else would you land on our page?
History
The Alfa Romeo coupe was Bertone’s first major project. The sturdy bodywork turned out to be highly desirable, making it one of Alfa’s greatest hits. Next level is the GTV trim, recognized by the double round headlights. Original documents are included and tell us that the adventure of the 1750 GTV began in Italy in 1969. In 1995 it reached its next stop in Germany. After that, it would take another 12 years before well-known Alfa Romeo restorer Manfred Strecker brought out the best in the coupe. During the restoration process in 2007-2008, no part was left to chance: sheet metal, technology; everything was re-built. The images of the project speak for themselves… When Strecker’s work was done, a Belgian Alfist immediately fell for the 1750 Gran Turismo Veloce. Together with his son he made the most enchanting tours in Italy and England. As they drove from adventure to adventure, the classic Romeo has always been kept in the best possible shape. This says a lot about the way these people have cherished Bertone’s art on wheels year after year. Only a Ferrari Dino from Prins could convince to have a taste of something else after a decade and a half.
Exterior
Alfa Romeo’s popular GT series from the 1960s is characterized by an angular design with sleek lines and compact dimensions. The straight front with short overhang in particular gives the classic coupe a sturdy and powerful appearance. The rear-end is larger, giving the Alfa a slim look. Bertone gave the GTV version even some extra attention, resulting in double instead of single round headlights. Exactly this version went on to be the most famous one. The silver-gray paintwork is also completely original and the overall condition of the bodywork is truly sublime! You can see with your eyes closed that the car has been driven and maintained with endless passion! Besides the fact that the condition of the exterior is truly immaculate, the color itself accentuates the elegant character of the Italian bella. Driving means buying, seeing is believing!
Interior
The composition of the interior is just as eye-catching: dark red leather upholstery, a beautiful wooden finish and mouth-watering details. For example, note the Alfa logo on the 3-spoke steering wheel; the iconic badge seems to be incorporated into the wooden heart. For sure, the restoration has been done by someone with a heart for beautiful machines, because the chrome on the counters, meters and ashtray, plus the toggle switches under the wooden gear lever (also with Alfa Romeo logo! ) are indistinguishable from new. The headrest recessed into the passenger seat is a unique feature, but frequently used in the 1750 GTV. No matter whether you get behind the wheel or next to it, sitting on the burgundy seats automatically means a big smile on your face!
Technique
It’s always nice to see when a classic drives as good as it looks. This Alfa Romeo doesn’t disappoint: the 1779 cc Twin Cam 4-cylinder in-line engine is a feast for your eyes, ears and right foot. The GT “Veloce”, upgraded with 12 hp, is at least as fast as it(‘s name) sounds. But above all, the condition is excellent, just like the steering, drivetrain and manual transmission. Thanks to this total package, the Alfa GTV 1750 is a pleasure to travel with. Naturally, all 120 horses are sent to the rear axle for the sporty driving experience you would expect from such a pure macchina. So what’s the first place you’re taking the Alfa Romeo classic to, after visiting our showroom?
Kind regards,
team Prins.
