Prologue

Porsche 928 4.7 S Meteor Grey

You can say a lot about the iconic Porsche 911, but not that it has V8 power. This classic, the Porsche 928, does. You’re looking at the 2nd generation “S” including more engine capacity and extra power on the rear wheels: 310 PS! You can’t expect more from the pre-facelift version. Only the restyled 928 S4 surpassed the good old “S”, but it hasn’t quite the same character of this original, very beautiful version… The Porsche 928, a classic nowadays, was once far ahead of its time. Moreover it’s pure, which is why we prefer to see it with a manual transmission. Also included are the original documents, service invoices, an electric roof and a unique, super chic color combination with gray lacquer and a red leather upholstery.

History
It should’ve been the successor to the 911, but in the end the Porsche 928 became an outsider. Customers continued to fall for ‘der Elfer’ after Zuffenhausen announced the 928 in 1977 as the ultimate GT. The advanced sports car sold really well, but also became more and more exclusive. So was the price. The 8-cylinder Porsche, which at first cost 49,000 euros, got a 10,000 euro more expensive S version in 79. Around 4 years later, the 928 S was upgraded again and the price increased by another 20,000 euros. In 1986, the 928 S4 facelift was released with prices starting at circa 110,000 euros… Looking for an affordable Porsche 928 S? You should visit Prins! Besides, our classic is in great shape, referring to the service documentation including maintenance history + invoices and a truly beautiful condition…

Exterior
We can see with our eyes closed that the Porsche 928 is inspired by the 911: is has the same kind of roofline. However, it’s the details that make it a lot more modern. Note for example the round headlights which automatically fold back into the front. A front with extra length due to Porsche’s choice to place the power unit at the front instead of the back. And it’s extra-large too thanks to 8 cylinders… What also makes the 928 a proper GT are the larger dimensions and bigger interior space. Our S has the more striking light units in the front bumper. The change was copied by the later S4 versions. Given a beautifully, timeless Meteor Gray lacquer, the sleek coupe will never be boring.

Interior
Inside our Porsche 928 S, the revolutionary character of the car is even more evident due to the many electronic systems. For example, automatic climate control is standard! The seating position is nice and low and the door panels are well filled with speakers and ventilation grilles. Our ‘time machine’ is equipped with super stylish red leather seats. This tasteful color is extended to the steering wheel, dashboard, headliner, center/tunnel console and even the entire floor is red. Large 928 inscriptions in the door sills proudly indicate in which extraordinary 2+2 cockpit you are planning to step into. An electric roof, electric windows, electric controls for the seats; it is all next level in terms of luxury inside the Porsche 928.

Technique & performance
And not just in terms of luxury… A steering rear axle for fast corners, “dogleg” gearbox mounted above the same axle and a water-cooled aluminum V8 engine contributed to the extremely innovative image of the 928. Our S has an output of 310 PS and 400 Nm of torque; respectively 10 PS and 15 Nm more than the previous 928 S and even 70 PS + 50 Nm more than the original without the letter “S”. The power increase was partly due to the larger engine capacity: 4.7 instead of 4.5 liters. Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h only takes 6.2 seconds and the top speed of 252 km/h broke the 250 limit for the first time. Our 928 S still drives like a real Porsche should drive. Okay, sure it’s not a 911. But doesn’t that make this classic extra special…?

Kind regards,
team Prins.
