History
As the year of construction and the motorization suggest, our Trident was originally delivered in America. Europe only had the 4.7 version in their catalogs the first years, the 4.9 followed later on. This specific Maserati Bora was brought from Chicago to the Netherlands in 2005 by the owner himself. The Italian masterpiece has been completely converted to EU specifications hereafter. Except the mileage counter, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to see how much the Maserati Bora has actually driven in exactly 50 years. Or how little: just over a 1.000 miles per year… And still the specialists managed to put more than 200,000 euros into restoration activities. Always wanted to know what a perfect classic looks like? Have a look at Prins!
Exterior
The Maserati Bora 4.9 seems to be the inventor of the word “exotic”. It’s impossible to admire the bodywork without being immediately in trance. Italian design master Giorgetto Giugiaro set some serious new standards by putting this brilliantly styled creation on the public roads. The front is shaped extremely sharp, the back is incredibly straightforward and the roof line is as flat as it could be. An amazing combination that has never been seen before since ItalDesign presented the concept back in 1969. Led by the very famous Giorgetto Giugiaro, ItalDesign is also responsible for the characteristic pop-up headlights and twin exhausts which are placed on the corners of the rear. In taintless fiery red with the A-pillars and roof in polished aluminum, the Maserati Bora impresses just that little bit more than it usually does. But hey, when do we even have the chance to see a mesmerizing classic like this…
Interior
The interior is just as mesmerizing: the black leather upholstery, authentic details and overall condition want you to set your teeth into the steering. Please don’t. We like to keep things as immaculate as possible inside the Bora. Besides, there already is a trident in the center of the 3-spoke aluminum sports steering wheel. Seats, doors, dashboard and even the gear lever cover; all leather parts are in excellent shape. The instruments and control units are in the right place, which is also the case of the vintage Blaupunkt radio. The seating position is practically at the same level as the asphalt and it’s almost guaranteed you will rub the headliner with your head. Now this is what we call a genuine cockpit! One that fits the time machine characteristics perfectly.
Technique & performance
The Maserati V8 was already a tradition back in 1973. Nevertheless, the technique of the Bora 4.9 is absolutely innovative. The Italians relied on the knowledge of Citroën: the owner of the brand back then. Features such as a hydraulically driven pedal cluster and a multilateral adjustable steering wheel were directly adopted by Maserati. Also unique is the double rear window, as a part of the brilliantly isolated cabin to prevent that the 8-cylinder is too loud to travel. Speaking of which, the position of the engine is ideal: right behind the seats and in front of the rear axle. It certainly benefits the handling. And although the Bora is a pure driving machine, the comfort Citroën has put into the car makes it very much a GT as well. Please tell us you’re going to use it as a car, not so much as exclusive museum art?
Kind regards,
Prins Classics.
