De Lincoln Continental is een unieke verschijning in Europa, maar heeft een geweldig lange en indrukwekkende loopbaan achter de rug in Amerika: 85 jaar geleden kwam het model op de markt, waarvan het 1e prototype in 1939 verscheen. Generatie 1 ging een jaar later in productie, echter generatie 4 van in totaal 10 is veruit de beroemdste. Het model werd onder andere gebruikt als “Presidential state car”, met de op maat gemaakte Limousine van John F. Kennedy als waarschijnlijk de meest notoire dienstwagen ter wereld. Ons exemplaar is van de 3e en laatste serie – gebouwd tussen 1966-1969, en heeft dus 2 facelifts achter zijn naam staan. Deze specifieke serie is te herkennen aan zijn hoekigere front met uitgeschreven modelnaam en strakgetrokken grille. Aan de achterkant vallen de grille-achtige kappen op die over de luchtunits zijn geplaatst. Wat bleef was het riante chroomwerk (inclusief extra rand onderlangs de dorpels), de 4 ronde koplampen en natuurlijk de reusachtige afmetingen met enorme overhang achter. Typerend zijn tevens de 2 extra portieren alias “suicide doors” die achterstevoren openen. Ondanks de comfortabele instap achterin werd speciaal voor JFK dus een (nog) langere Limousine versie naar een Convertible omgebouwd. De conditie van onze witte slee is overigens heel behoorlijk, zeker gezien zijn leeftijd. De techniek verkeert zelfs in zeer goede staat! Daarover gesproken: ‘natuurlijk’ wordt de ruim 5,5 meter lange gigant aangedreven door een échte big-block: voor de serie uit ‘66 werd de magische 8-cilinder zowaar opgeboord tot een inhoud van maar liefst 7,6 liter! “Whatever you’re thinking, think bigger.” Nu exclusief bij Prins.

The Lincoln Continental is a rare sight in Europe but boasts a long and illustrious history in America, where the model debuted 85 years ago. The first prototype appeared in 1939, and the first generation went into production a year later. However, it’s the fourth generation—out of a total of ten—that is by far the most famous. This model was famously used as a Presidential state car, with John F. Kennedy’s custom limousine arguably being the most notorious service vehicle in the world.
Our example comes from the third and final series of the fourth generation, produced between 1966 and 1969, having undergone two facelifts. This series is distinguished by its angular front design, featuring the full Continental” script badge** and a refined grille. At the rear, you’ll notice grille-like covers over the taillight units. What remained unchanged is the abundance of chrome (including an additional trim strip running below the rocker panels), the iconic four round headlamps, and the car’s enormous size with significant rear overhang.
One of the Continental’s standout features is its rear-hinged rear doors, commonly referred to as **“suicide doors”**, which offer comfortable rear-seat access. For JFK, a custom-built limousine version was even further stretched and converted into a Convertible.
The condition of our white land yacht is remarkable, especially considering its age, and its **mechanical state is in excellent shape**. Speaking of the mechanicals: this 5.5-meter-long giant is, of course, powered by a true big-block engine. For the 1966 series, Lincoln increased the displacement of its magical V8 to an astonishing 7.6 liters! As they say, “Whatever you’re thinking, think bigger.” Now available exclusively at Prins.
