No, our low-mileage Ferrari Testarossa Monospecchio / Monodado has no history with exciting car chases in the Sunshine State. Instead, the iconic supercar drove its first miles in another hot area full of cowboys. Official registration and service documents are included, proving the authenticity of the Italian in Rosso, which was newly delivered in Texas. Its American adventure between the wild horses of the Lone Star State was exchanged for a quiet en peaceful existence in 2018, after it was shipped to the Netherlands. Things that didn’t change are its modest mileage, perfect service history and collector’s item status…
History
The Ferrari Testarossa is perhaps the world’s most famous childhood dream from the 80s. The supercar suited roles in blockbusters such as Miami Vice perfectly. The career of our classic started in an environment just as hot, but is nevertheless a lot less wild: in 1985, the Testarossa was delivered new in Texas, where the “Flat Ferrari V12” released its 390 horses not that often, because the Italian legend was hardly driven. The modest mileage stayed that way in 2018, despite its new adventure in the Netherlands. Anyway, the Testarossa has been perfectly maintained by Dutch Ferrari specialist Real Art on Wheels. A company name like this, says it all…
Exterior
Without the Testarossa, the future of Ferrari could have been very different. This characteristic model left its mark on the brand image like we’ve never seen before. With its razor-sharp bodywork and extraordinary styling, the sports car is recognizable from thousands. Especially in a Rosso Corsa costume. Version and condition are simply ‘perfetto’: the original had a single wing mirror (Monospecchio) high on the A-pillar and rims including a single-bolt design: the Monodado. In short, exactly like Sonny Crockett had it. However, ours is considerably neater, since it was never used to catch crooks. The unmistakable ‘slats’ that cover the rear lights and aerodynamics that lead to the cooling radiators behind the doors, are just as impressive though…
Interior
Many enthusiasts would have signed for a Nero leather interior, but the combination of beige seats with a brown leather dashboard is the absolute dream specification for genuine fans. The immaculate condition means that this is not a classic, but a time machine. Also note the angular design, beautifully milled aluminum shift wings of the manual transmission with classic H-pattern, and the contrast stitching in the Nero leather Momo steering wheel!
Technique & performance
The 4.9-litre 12-cylinder was nicknamed “flat 12” because of its 180-degree positioning behind the front seats; a feature that was directly taken over from Testarossa predecessor “Berlinetta Boxer”. The name of our Ferrari also refers to a typical feature of the mid-engine, known for its “red head”. With 4 valves per cylinder, the V12 produces 390 PS and has a top speed of 290 km/h. Perhaps even more interesting is the 40/60 weight distribution, guaranteeing a spectacular driving experience. Or perhaps even a wild chasing scene…?
Kind regards,
team Prins.
