History
In 2002, the Ferrari 575M Maranello was introduced as the successor to the 550 Maranello. In both cases, the 2-seater GTs owe their name to the engine capacity, which grew from 5.5 to 5.75 liters. Visually, the 575M seemed to be a subtle evolution of the original Maranello, being on the market since 1996. However, underneath the differences were actually quite big. Literally, thanks to larger brake discs that had to tame the increased output from time to time. Furthermore, the weight distribution and aerodynamics also improved. But the most noteworthy upgrade is the transmission: from now on, a super-fast F1 transmission was responsible for changing gears, which became history within 200 milliseconds. Over 20 years later, we understand how important this trend was for Ferrari back in the days. A trend that in this specific case was cherished by respected Ferrari dealer Tamsen in Stuhr, Germany, where our 575M was delivered new in 2003 and perfectly maintained until it was brought to the Netherlands in 2011. The most recent service dates from January 2023 and was done by Munsterhuis with 38,126 km on the odometer. The timing + multi-belts were also replaced then.
Exterior
On the outside, the 575 “Modificata” can be recognized by a modified headlight layout, slimmer rim design, different bumpers and grille. What remained was the characteristic air intake in the bonnet and 4 round rear lights – 2 per side. Furthermore, every Maranello stands out because of its sleek, “less is more” styling with many straight lines. Although the proportions are impressive, the design leaves little room for frivolity. The nose is seriously long and the GT-like roofline also suggests that more than 2 people can be moved at the same time. But it can’t. In Rosso Corsa, the 575M Maranello is unmistakably a real Ferrari. That didn’t stop the designers from putting Rosso brake calipers and Scuderia Shields on the sides though…
Interior
The cockpit also got a small transformation: the steering wheel and instrument panel became a lot more modern – especially with those aluminum F1 Shift Paddles in between. The separate meters in the middle of the dashboard, directly above the 3 ventilation openings, are no longer there on the “M”. Our version has a Nero leather finish on the seats, steering wheel, the entire dashboard, center console, the special “Stradale” roll bar and the belts on the rear deck.
Technique & performance
Back to the technique: the increase in engine capacity, from 5.5 to 5.75 liters, gave the Maranello 29 extra prancing horses. This brings the total output of the magical Ferrari V12, non-turbo, to 515. The torque also increased from 568 to 589 Nm. And of course the F1 gearbox plays an important role in the improved 0-100 km/h sprint that now only takes 4.3 seconds. With 6 automatic gears it’s possible to reach a top speed of 325 km/h. That’s still impressive by today’s standards. The question is: how impressed are you with this Rosso Prins Classic?
Kind regards,
team Prins.
