The Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV Bertone is the ultimate example of why we love to romanticize the past. No modern *macchina* exudes as much flair, charisma, and soul as this original Italian-delivered Gran Turismo Veloce. Our classic *bella* has spent nearly its entire life in its native Italy, until a loyal Prins customer tracked down this characteristic coupé. He recently traded the Bertone for a "new" classic. But the beauty of the restored Alfa GTV 2000 will remain etched in his memory forever. Timeless silver-grey paintwork, factory-original tinted windows, and bold GTA wheels added later are just a few highlights. Would we change anything about this classic Romeo? Perhaps it’s parking spot—if you recognize the value of this Bertone masterpiece, that is…
History
Of all the famous classics, the Alfa Romeo GT (Veloce) is perhaps the most accessible. This iconic model descends from the 105/115 Series Coupés, designed by Italian master Giorgetto Giugiaro. The GTV 2000 is particularly desirable thanks to its powerful 2.0-liter engine and refined styling. This specific example is 100% Italian, including the restoration work it underwent. After debuting on the asphalt in 1973, the Alfa 2000 GTV remained loyal to its homeland for an impressive 50 years. The former owner, a true enthusiast and avid Alfa collector, only discovered this classic half a century after its original delivery. The best way to honor such a find is, of course, never to part with it. But then, suddenly, another long-cherished dream car appeared at Prins… Choices had to be made, and decisions finalized. With the GTV 2000 now part of our collection, you know how that story ended.
Exterior
The Alfa Romeo GT and GT Veloce models have left an indelible mark on automotive history, and their unmistakable design is a major reason why. Working for the legendary design house Bertone, Giugiaro sketched a striking silhouette featuring a flat front and a roofline that seamlessly follows the car’s waistline. The body is compact yet sleek—a unique combination. Among its many details, the front of the two-door coupé stands out as the most characterful. The GTV 2000 is particularly distinctive, with its unique arrangement of twin round headlights and a chrome grille featuring eight slats (including the upper edge) that flow into the iconic *Scudetto*. All chrome elements, including bumpers, mirrors, door handles, window surrounds, and light fixtures, are in excellent condition. The elegant silver-grey paintwork is equally impeccable. Factory-original tinted windows were a luxury at the time. The highly sought-after GTA wheels, added later, underscore its robust image. Tarantasio *biscione* emblems on the C-pillars proudly link Alfa Romeo to the fashion capital of Milan. In a word: *bellissimo*!
Interior
The interior design is just as stunning. In this particular example, Nero (black) takes center stage, with numerous chrome accents providing a dazzling contrast. The wooden details—including the large three-spoke steering wheel, beautiful dashboard inlays, and trim around the gearstick—highlight the classy gentleman’s DNA of the Alfa Romeo GTV 2000. Classic toggle switches and round dials, gauges, and meters in the delightfully analog instrument panel ooze old-school sophistication. Sitting inside is pure pleasure. And once you’re on the road, that grin won’t leave your face!
Engineering & Performance
As the badge on the trunk lid indicates, the Alfa GTV 2000 houses a nearly 2,000 cc engine under its hood. Specifically, the 4-cylinder Twin Cam engine in the GTV has been upgraded from 1,779 cc (1750) to 1,962 cc. This upgrade allows the Alfa classic to deliver 132 horsepower to the rear axle via a 5-speed manual gearbox. Enthusiasts already know how much this contributes to a sporty driving experience. And the Gran Turismo Veloce also sounds incredible! All the ingredients for an unforgettable driving experience are here. And no, we certainly haven’t forgotten about the future driver.
