The success of the Alfa GT Veloce and Junior is historic. But it was this stunning Giulia 1600 GT what made the first Sprint. The early Bertone concept is also known as the “scalino” version, recognized by the small split between the front and the bonnet. But above all it set the base for the huge popular Alfa GT. An Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Sprint GT is quite rare though. Especially in a neat condition like this one, including matching numbers. Besides, the history is fully documented and the driving experience smooth as a classic Alfa should be. So if you’re looking for a good reason to visit Holland really soon, here you go.
History
It’s been 57 years since the white bella left the Italian factory. At first, the Alfa Giulia 1600 Sprint GT was kept by its country of origin. Thankfully, it was in great hands, looking at the full maintenance history. In addition, the beauty of all the visible parts are completely intact too. And so it was only a matter of time before the Giulia Sprint GT appeared on the radar of another country, complete with matching numbers. No, you won’t say this is a 1965 Alfa Romeo after judging the overall condition. However, it isn’t entirely new as well. The real reason? It’s truly original. Just how it should be.
Exterior
The pure, untouched character of our Giulia “scalino” makes an extra strong impression thanks to the bright white bodywork. The Bianco color scheme leaves nothing to the imagination: every clean line that master Bertone drew is as clear as it is beautiful. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT is a timeless classic with little room for curves. The straightforward design gives it the sturdy looks for which the 2-door coupe is known. For example, the front is quite blunt and contains single round headlight units, instead of the double ones of later series. The placement of the indicators and the many chrome bars in the grille are also typical for the original Sprint GT. But the most striking thing is the narrow opening just in front of the bonnet; a detail many Alfa fans fall for…
Interior
The bright white body with a red leather interior makes it a mouth-watering combination. In addition to the seats and doors, the floor and gear lever cover also have a Rosso finish. Amazing! The aluminum 3-spoke steering wheel and classic gauges in the dashboard complete the nostalgic feeling inside the Alfa Giulia 1600 Sprint GT. The condition is very neat. So, there will be no problem experiencing many hours of pure driving pleasure in this car!
Technique
Like the type designation says, the original Sprint GT has almost 1,600 cc of engine capacity. Thanks to double Weber carbs, the 4-cylinder Twin Cam sends 103 horses to the rear wheels. The upgrade compared to the non-Sprint GT versions is the reason why Alfa Romeo installed an extra air inlet, just to be sure the engine get the cooling it needs. Once the engineers saw that extra cooling wasn’t necessary, the scalino disappeared, making this Bianco Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Sprint GT even more unique. Now who doesn’t like something unique?
Cordiali Saluti,
Prins Classics.
