Prologue

Alfa Romeo 75 3.0 V6 America Bianco Argento

A unique find: this brilliantly beautiful Alfa Romeo 75 3.0 V6 America – type FL89, comes from its second owner and is in fabulous condition, both optically and technically! In recent years, this classic has been part of a Belgian car collection, where its condition was further perfected. Before that, the Alfa 75 belonged to a Spanish enthusiast who bought the sporty Berlina new as a family car and kept it as a weekend car until 2022. The optional air conditioning and rear electric windows were factory-installed, while a catalytic converter is noticeably absent. This means the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder delivers 188 unfiltered, smooth horsepower to the rear wheels. A relatively modest mileage, meticulous periodic maintenance, damage-free history, and matching numbers + colors further contribute to the rare character of this Bianco Argento Alfa 75 V6 America. Will owner number 3 please report to Prins?

History
In 1985, Alfa Romeo launched the successor to the then-current Giulietta. To emphasize the hierarchy within the Alfa family, traditional model names were replaced by numbers. The Alfa 75 was the first to debut in the mid-size sports sedan segment, and it soon became clear that the less charismatic model designation did not detract from the car’s charm. The range of engines and drivetrains was remarkably broad, with the 3.0-liter V6 as the top model—later also available as the QV. In Europe, this version was named "America," referencing the primary market for the 6-cylinder variants. However, this particular example is 100% original European and was delivered new in Spain. Initially, it was intended for daily family use. But when the Alfa 75 was joined by the new 156 in 1998, the owner couldn’t bear to part with his beloved Berlina. As a result, he kept it as a weekend car until 2022.

The second owner is a familiar face at Prins: an enthusiastic Alfa Romeo collector who has thoroughly pampered the 75 America. That said, the car was already in stunning condition before he acquired it. The only exterior work done was a respray by Classic Car Specialist, as the paint had developed some cracks—a well-known Bianco Argento issue. Inside, the only restoration was replacing the headliner, another common Alfa 75 quirk. Otherwise, the car’s condition was—and still is—exceptionally pristine. In short, a collector’s item of the purest kind!

Exterior
Standing face-to-face with our Alfa Romeo 75 3.0 V6 America doesn’t just evoke a sense of nostalgia—it literally feels like time has stood still. It’s incredible that this Bianco Argento gem from *la bella Italia* has been gracing the streets for so long. In fact, the model will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2025! The sharp lines and crisp angles are quintessentially ‘80s. The strong wedge shape is further emphasized by the characteristic plastic trim running along the sides of the car, from the headlights all the way to the integrated trunk lid spoiler. Aerodynamic flaps along the rear window, the red glass connecting the taillights, and the shock-absorbing "folds" in the plastic bumpers are unmistakably part of the Alfa 75’s iconic design. What a beauty!

Interior
Only the straightforward interior design reveals this Alfa Romeo classic’s era. Its condition, however, makes it seem as if the four-door has barely been driven—everything is still perfectly intact! The steering wheel, seats, dashboard, and gearshift boot show no significant signs of wear. Even the door panels remain in excellent shape. As mentioned, only the headliner has been replaced, but its deterioration is a known issue that almost every other Alfa 75 shares with this example. So, not really worth mentioning. However, for the sake of completeness, we do mention it—because whoever falls for this Italian collector’s item is someone who is extremely meticulous in their search for the perfect Alfa classic. Otherwise, you probably would have settled for something else by now…

Mechanics
A 4-cylinder Twin Cam is attractive and refined, the Turbo version bold and explosive, but for true enthusiasts, the V6 is the one to have. And preferably with a 3.0-liter displacement. The power, the growl, the smoothness—this is an Alfa Romeo as it was meant to be! Ours is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and performs as if it’s still in its youth. In total, 188 horses reach the rear axle. The FL89 had no catalytic converter. This makes the driving experience of the sports sedan all the purer. The precise maintenance performed on the Alfa 75 3.0 V6 America over the years is evident. And it pays off with a grin that won’t leave your face. Will we get to witness that in person soon?

team Prins
