Looking for the ideal classic to enjoy the touring season in style? This charming Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint is a true driver’s car—perfect for classic rallies or scenic drives along your own handpicked routes. Technically, the car has recently received meticulous attention in our Prins workshop, where our specialist Mark personally installed the Weber carburetors. He also replaced the synchromesh rings, gearbox bearings, and upgraded the ignition system to an electronic setup. The result? This Alfa 2600 Sprint is even more of a driver’s car than it already was! The 6-cylinder inline engine runs sublimely, and the handling is simply fantastic. You’ll be seated in a freshly renewed interior, while the paintwork was previously done by the former owner—a true enthusiast and collector of French Alfa Romeos. Which, we assume, is exactly what you are too?
History
The Alfa Romeo 2600 was introduced in 1962 as the successor to the Alfa 2000. Knowing it wouldn’t be easy to follow up on such an iconic design, the Italians once again turned to Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was working for Bertone at the time, to pen the Sprint version. The result? A breathtaking coupé—unsurprisingly the most popular body style of the range. The biggest technical leap? A switch from a 4-cylinder to a 6-cylinder inline engine. This particular car comes from France, where we acquired it directly from a dedicated Alfa Romeo collector. After some gentle persuasion, we managed to add it to our collection—so it could once again be used for what it was truly made for: driving!
Exterior
There’s no shortage of distinctive design cues, but if we had to name a few highlights: the twin round headlamps, the hood-mounted air intake or “mail slot,” and the uninterrupted character line that flows along the rear flares—each giving the Alfa 2600 Sprint the kind of flair that defines this two-door coupé. The white paintwork was redone under the previous owner’s care, yet the authenticity remains intact. What charm, what charisma—this is unmistakably “designed in Italy”! Just like the color scheme, the chrome trim on the bumpers, window surrounds, wipers, and of course the iconic grille—complete with that stunning Scudetto—fits perfectly with the era from which this Alfa classic hails.
Interior
Step inside and you’re greeted by a refined, dark blue leather finish on the seats, rear bench, and gearshift boot. The same tasteful tone is continued on the door panels and lower dashboard, all part of a recent restoration effort. From your own garage, you’ll feel transported straight to the Mediterranean coast—and not by accident. Those winding coastal roads were practically made for a car like the Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint. Even better, the whole family can come along for the ride—this GT is a genuine 5-seater! A thin black steering wheel with three slim aluminum spokes, a black Alfa Romeo center cap, and three large, chrome-ringed gauges stare longingly at the driver. Waiting… begging… to be brought to life.
Mechanics
And brought to life it should be—because this 2600 Sprint becomes something truly special once its 2.6-liter inline-six roars into action. The silky engine is fed by three horizontally-mounted twin-choke carburetors, which were recently and expertly replaced by our own Mark. But that’s not all: synchromesh rings, gearbox bearings, electronic ignition—it’s all been refreshed. The result? A classic Alfa Romeo that glides across the road in a way that no enthusiast could possibly ignore. So, what are you waiting for?
Kind regards,
Team Prins
